38 people missed Tuesday’s rehearsal due to illness, injury, exhaustion, fraud, holidays….. You missed a treat!
It was an evening of stand-ins. Wenda was indisposed and Paul was locum MC, boiler technician and stand-up comedian. Important message tho’…….
DON’T FORGET! NEXT WEEK (29th OCTOBER 2019) IS OUR HALF-TERM AND THERE IS NO REHEARSAL
Ysanne Bonner was standing-in for Carolyn who is touring the States. She took us through some new songs and reprised something from our Christmas repertoire.
This was a version of Sway from the great American songbook (Dean Martin, Michael Bublé et al). Initial pitching problems were resolved with Ysanne’s advice to use our resonators, “Cheekbones, eyebrows, smiley, smiley.” Alas, no volunteers to demo a tango while we rehearsed…
‘Tis the Season of the Year
We sang this (?) three years ago and it obviously lingered in some memories. We re-organised ourselves into three separate choirs of mixed voices. Each choir sang their verse in turn to a different tune. I’d categorise the verses and tunes as angelic, secular and manic. We need more men in the angelic choir, so basses, if you were absent last Tuesday, would you please join the angels when we next rehearse this.
The New Christie Minstrels hit from 1963, learnt in record time. After encouraging the sopranos to be more forte, Ysanne is now the current holder of the best oblique reprimand award (BORA), with her remark, “Tunes, that’s lovely. I like how you sing so quietly!” Note: BORAs are awarded only rarely, but nominations can be made at any time by emailing email@example.com
We calmed down with a lovely round (new to many of us) to end the evening.
Some parish notices to close:
- If you would like to volunteer to sing carols in nursing homes please put this date in your diary: SUNDAY 8thDECEMBER in the afternoon. We’ll be singing at The Grange in St Cross Road at 2:00pm (for a 2:15pm start) and at 3:30pm at Moorside Home (St John’s) in Durngate. I’ll ask you to indicate on a tick list, when we restart rehearsals on 5th November, whether you’re available for either of these sessions;
- Thank you to all those who have responded to the survey about a European trip in 2021. It’s not too late if you haven’t. The survey is attached (again) for ease of reference. Please fill it in and return to me by email OR print it off, complete in your best handwriting and bring it to the next rehearsal, OR just send me an email (Subject “Survey” please) answering the questions freestyle. Closing date for returns is 31st October.
See you week after next…
